'Introduction to Inclusive Music and Dance Workshop Facilitation'

One - day Training Course

at St Peters Heritage Centre in Vauxhall, Friday June 24th 2011.

This is a practical, physical and experiential training. Including active participation in set up and delivery of a JOS model inclusive dance& music workshop. Dance being an open definition here; including all expressive movement. After the workshop there will be a lunchtime de-briefing, the afternoon sessions will focus on dance technique or improvisation "techniques" of Authentic Movement and Intensive Interaction and look deeper into the relationship between movement and music. At the end there will a chance to reflect individually and as group.

Training and Workshop Schedule

The Embodied Collective

9.30 - 9.40 am Welcome and General Introduction Background

Inclusion, wellbeing, socialisation, personal development, the therapeutic role of music and dance.

09.40 - 10.00 am Overview Content of Dance& Music session

Warm up, coming together as a group, coming in touch with your body, co- leadership, role of silence/ stillness, beginnings and endings, initiating movement, how to interact, call& response, search& reflect, developments of partnerships/ duets, phrasing, authenticity, harmony/ complementing, inviting& generating creative inclusion from the participants, relationship/ difference between music& dance, acknowledgements, how to develop interaction between two people to a movement idea/ invitation for the whole group.

10.00 - 10.30 am Workshop roles.

Support worker is facilitator and enables participants to express themselves by listening/ observing if needed coaxing in letting the participants making the decisions of how to react& move. Use of Intensive Interaction or building partnerships.

10.30 - 10.45 am Break Hot and cold drinks and light refreshments will be provided

10.45 - 11.15 am Setting Up Logistics, creating a welcoming environment and atmosphere, group set up, physical and seating needs and arrangements, greeting participants.

Warm up getting in tune with the body, waking up bodies that do not move much, bodily sensations, raise awareness of bodily sensations.

11.30 - 12.30 pm Movement/ Dance and workshop

12.30 - 13.00 pm Clearing up and debriefing

13.00 - 14.00 pm Lunch will be provided and reflections encouraged.

14.00 - 16.30 pm Authentic Movement

• How to overcome inhibitions/ barriers

• How to allow movement/ inner sensation to come out and expressed in the body

• How to allow somebody to take the lead/ when to lead yourself

• Authenticity - follow impulse be true to yourself by staying connected to yourself and your movement theme

• Allow yourself and others to interact, change/ get affected

• How to expend/ transcend to the whole group

• Clear beginning and ending,

• When to end? Staying honest/ listening to yourself

• Responsibility towards the group/ collective. Use of space and safety by staying open and connected with what is going on around you.

Evaluation Forms, consideration of transferable aspects and skills arising from the day's workshops and how they might be carried by participants into their workplace, studies and day to day living.
